Leading Cleveland drug attorney, Edward La Rue, has recently discussed the growing drug problem in America, during an interview in Ohio.

Deaths resulting from drug usage in Ohio are expected to surge 70% by 2025, a report recently released by Trust for American’s Health and the Well Being Trust found. This means that in less than a decade 48.5 per 100,000 deaths in Ohio will be drug related.

When asked to comment, La Rue said, “The headlines are not misleading. Drug usage is one of America’s age-old problems that has resurfaced in years, largely stemming from the opioid epidemic.”

Other estimates put drug-related mortality rates in the state higher – at nearly double-fold – by 2025 largely due to the surge in the usage of opioids, such as heroin, fentanyl, and carfentanil.

While this is a widespread problem throughout America, Ohio has it worse than most. The Buckeye state is slated to rank 11th in America by 2025 in terms of mortality rates resulting from drug/alcohol use or suicide.

“Increased drug usage means more arrests, and more arrests mean a need for clients to seek a defense attorney who can mount a successful case, especially at a time when law enforcement will be cracking down on illicit activity.”

The extent of the drug problem faced by Ohio has not always been this severe.

Deaths from drug overdoses in the state have increased 506% since 1999 as per figures from the Trust for American’s Health report.

“The opioid crisis, which has hit Ohio in particular, has happened so rapidly, placing strain the existing legal system. This situation calls for defense attorneys who can navigate the evolving legal system both at the state and federal levels,” De Rue commented.

New laws and new regulations will be created to combat drug and alcohol usage, De Rue added. Some of these new regulations could include making sure that opioids aren’t being overprescribed by doctors or increase the availability of rescue drugs.

“However, this is not a problem that is going away anytime soon. While prevention and treatment efforts are in the works, no one knows how long it’ll take to curb the current drug crisis. In the meantime, we’ll be working within the legal system to help our clients also fight the opioid crisis,” he said.

Gravina elected president of Italian soccer federation

Oct 22, 2018

ROME — Gabriele Gravina was elected president of the Italian soccer federation on Monday, bringing an end to a year of uncertainty. The 65-year-old Gravina, a former Serie C president, was the only candidate and received 97.2 percent of the votes at an election assembly. "Gabriele is one of you, someone who wants to change and relaunch Italian soccer," Gravina said. "We will change orientation and direction. "The soccer that I want focuses on youth, but also on female soccer. I want a sustainable soccer, open to families, with modern and functioning infrastructure and a competitive national team." The FIGC...

Ronaldo keeps his focus, Juventus struggling to do the same

Oct 22, 2018

MILAN — Despite his off-the-field turmoil, Cristiano Ronaldo is still scoring goals. His teammates, however, let Juventus down. Ronaldo has scored five goals in nine matches, and two in three matches since being accused of rape last month. On Saturday, Ronaldo gave Juventus the lead in the 18th minute at Genoa. Then something odd happened. Normally so calm and collected, the Juventus players were at times haphazard in their passing and Daniel Bessa equalized in the 67th minute as the defense was caught napping. "They capitalized on our loss of concentration," Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri said. "After starting well, we...

Inter left counting the cost of 1-0 derby win against Milan

Oct 22, 2018

MILAN — Mauro Icardi's stoppage-time header gave Inter Milan a 1-0 win over AC Milan in the city derby on Sunday but it could be left counting the cost of that victory after key midfielder Radja Nainggolan limped off in the first half. Nainggolan hurt his ankle in a crunching tackle with Lucas Biglia in the first half. The Belgian midfielder will undergo tests on Monday but is now a doubt for Wednesday's Champions League match at Barcelona. Forward Ivan Perisic went off in the second half, while midfielder Marcelo Brozovic could also miss the trip to Barcelona, with both...

Ronaldo scores but Juventus' perfect start ended by Genoa

Oct 22, 2018

MILAN — Cristiano Ronaldo became the first player to net 400 goals across Europe's top five leagues. It wasn't enough on Saturday to maintain Juventus' perfect start to the season. Ronaldo, who has been accused of rape in a civil lawsuit in the United States, scored in the 1-1 draw against Genoa. It was his fifth Serie A goal in nine matches. Ronaldo has 311 goals in La Liga for Real Madrid, and 84 in the English Premier League for Manchester United. Juventus won all of its previous 10 matches across Serie A and the Champions League. Though Juve's lead...

Cristiano Ronaldo expected to play for Juventus on Saturday

Oct 22, 2018

MILAN — Cristiano Ronaldo's return to Juventus started with a selfie, included a goal in a practice game, and will likely end up with a starring role on Saturday. Ronaldo, who has been accused of rape and is facing a civil lawsuit in the United States, had the weekend off while his Italian team was idle during a break for international matches. Normally the star of his national team, the 33-year-old Ronaldo was left off Portugal's squad for games against Poland and Scotland. The team won both anyway. But he's back now, and is expected to be in the lineup...
