BCL Wins Order For Timber Ceilings At Pembroke College

BCL Timber Projects, UK’s leading provider of pre-fabricated wooden slatted walls and acoustic timber ceilings, has won the order to provide slatted wood ceilings to the internal areas at Pembroke College.

United Kingdom - May 24, 2023 —

Based and operating out of Berkshire UK, BCL Timber Projects provide a unique design-flexible slatted panel system covering acoustic wood panels, timber slat ceilings, and external grade timber cladding systems – allowing increased design and performance flexibility, whilst minimising on-site waste and installation time for large commercial projects.

The project, designed by Haworth Tompkins Architects is set to regenerate many of the existing historic buildings on the existing site in order to ".. provide a range of versatile, adaptive and flexible spaces, which will serve a range of activities that express Pembroke’s enduring commitment to world-class research, teaching and the exchange of ideas."

The BCL timber slat ceiling will cover approximately 500 square metres across multiple areas, delivering Class B acoustic performance to the space and Euroclass B-s3,d2 Reaction to Fire (to EN13501-1). The acoustic wood panels for Pembroke College will use solid UK Ash, grown and fully sourced here in the UK, minimising carbon emissions from transportation to maximise carbon offsetting.

Pembroke College, founded in 1347, is the third oldest of the Cambridge colleges, located in the centre of the University Centre, with over 700 students and fellows. As one of the larger of the university’s colleges, it contains buildings from almost every century since its founding, and the recent project delivered to BCL Timber Projects is designed to help some of those buildings keep up with the world-class teaching services the College was built to provide.

With over three decades of experience in designing, manufacturing, and installing panel systems for large-scale commercial projects, BCL Timber Projects is able to consult clients on every area of the design and specification process, helping architects meet all manner of demands and complete all kinds of challenging designs. BCL’s process includes three elements of turn-key service. Their in-house design team can offer the depth of planning to deliver completely bespoke panel designs and detailed design support for architects, including full panel layout, detail, and manufacturing drawings. Their manufacturing is done in a modern factory environment with the capacity to ensure large systems productions. They also provide full installation services direct on large projects across the UK and beyond.
