Humaans US Payroll will begin rolling out this fall, bringing payroll execution into the same platform that powers workforce data, automation and AI agents.
United Kingdom, August 23, 2026 -- Humaans, the workforce technology company behind the agentic AI platform Athena, today announced its expansion into US payroll. Humaans Payroll will begin rolling out to its first customers this fall, marking another major step in the company’s expansion into the US and further upmarket.

Over the past few years, Humaans has continued to build on its core system of record, giving companies more ways to manage their workforce from a single platform. That has included the launch of AI-powered Employee Engagement which turns workforce feedback into actionable insights, and Athena, a system-agnostic agentic AI platform that enables organizations to deploy AI agents across People, IT and Finance.
Payroll is a natural next step. Much of the information needed to run payroll from compensation and employment details to changes in a person’s role or location, already lives in the workforce record. Bringing payroll into that same foundation means companies can keep their workforce data connected while reducing the manual work involved in keeping information up to date.
"Everything required to pay someone correctly is the consequence of events the system of record already owns," said Giovanni Luperti, CEO and co-founder of Humaans. "Someone joins, moves state, gets promoted, changes compensation, takes leave or receives a bonus.
Yet every pay cycle, teams still spend enormous amounts of time reconstructing that context for payroll. We think payroll should begin the moment something changes in the workforce, not when someone sits down at the end of the pay cycle to prepare it."
Deepening Humaans' US expansion
The US has become an increasingly important market for Humaans, and the company is investing more heavily in its presence there. A growing share of its customers are based in the US, while many of the international organizations it works with already have employees there or are expanding into the market.
Payroll is a natural extension of that growth. Managing employees across multiple states brings added complexity around taxes, benefits, employment arrangements and workforce changes, much of which still sits across disconnected systems.
Much of the market is still built around legacy systems, and Humaans sees an opportunity to take a different approach, combining better infrastructure and connected workforce data with automation and AI.
"The US is a market we care deeply about," said Luperti. "We're seeing growing demand both from US companies and from international organizations expanding here. We want Humaans to support those companies as they grow, while keeping their workforce data and operations deeply connected as they scale."
More broadly, Humaans believes AI will push organizations to rethink both how they operate and the technology they rely on. That thinking extends to payroll, where the goal is to move beyond simply digitizing the same monthly processes and instead build a system around an accurate workforce record from the start.
Payroll built for US complexity
Humaans Payroll will support businesses across all 50 states and Washington, DC, including W-2 employees and 1099 contractors. It will support weekly, biweekly, semimonthly, monthly, quarterly and annual pay cadences, with tax calculations, payments and filings built directly into the payroll experience.
Changes to compensation, employment, location and leave will flow directly from the workforce record into payroll, carrying the relevant effective dates and approvals with them. For People and Finance teams, that means less manual preparation and reconciliation, fewer opportunities for errors, and a much clearer path from workforce change to payday.
Beyond systems of record: Building for the AI era
Humaans believes AI fundamentally changes what a workforce software is capable of. Rather than simply recording information or helping people complete tasks, softwares can increasingly understand context, navigate workflows and take action on behalf of HR teams.
Athena is designed to address this by taking on administrative work and coordinating workflows. Payroll isn’t just another product for Humaans. It gives the platform another important area where workforce changes can be understood and acted on automatically.
Over time, a promotion, for example, could automatically trigger the relevant compensation workflow, assess its impact on payroll, prepare the necessary changes, flag any exceptions, and surface only the decisions that require human judgment or approval.
"We don't believe the next generation of workplace technology will look like today's SaaS products with an AI assistant added on top," said Luperti. "AI changes what software itself can do, from giving people better tools to understanding context, reasoning across systems and increasingly executing work on their behalf. That's the shift we're designing Humaans around."
