OpenCart Reviewed in EcommerceViews’ List of Best E-Commerce Platforms for Digital Products 2026

The free, self-hosted ecommerce platform continues to power over 471,000 ecommerce entrepreneurs worldwide. The platform is reinforcing its position as the go-to solution for entrepreneurs who want full control over their store without the cost of proprietary software.

Hong Kong, July 22, 2026 -- OpenCart, the leading free, open-source ecommerce platform, is among the top ecommerce platforms reviewed by EcommerceViews for its 2026 list of Best E-commerce Platforms for Digital Products. OpenCart was highlighted as a standout platform for sellers who want control and the lowest long-term cost per sale.

As more entrepreneurs look to sell digital products, software licenses, and downloadable content online, OpenCart stands out as an option built for long-term control. The platform, through its effective, customizable features with seamless scalability, security, and hassle-free management, combines native digital product support with a cost structure that keeps more revenue in store owners' hands. A spokesperson from OpenCart’s open-source community said that OpenCart is purposely built to give store owners full control of their businesses, whether they handle digital products or physical goods.

"We are thrilled to be featured among the best ecommerce platforms and compared against industry giants. Being recognized for the strength of our platform is exactly what we strive for and we are proud to stand as the leading platform for our growing community of entrepreneurs."

Since its founding, OpenCart has built a reputation as one of the most accessible e-commerce platforms available. The platform offers a completely free, open-source alternative that currently powers over 471000 ecommerce entrepreneurs across the globe, from small independent shops to multi-store enterprises. OpenCart gives store owners everything they need to create, scale, and run their businesses with no monthly fees and hidden catches. The platform is free to download, update, and customize, making it a practical option for entrepreneurs who prefer a self-hosted platform for their online business.

In addition, OpenCart features over 13000 affordable modules and themes and integrates with many of the world's widely used payment gateways and shipping providers. The e-commerce platform is also backed by one of the largest online e-commerce communities.

"We built OpenCart on the idea that anyone should be able to launch and grow an online store without being priced out by monthly software fees. As a free, open-source platform, we give our users complete ownership over their store, data, and growth," added the spokesperson.

OpenCart is also hosted on the fastest hosting platform, ScalaHosting. In 2025, OpenCart announced its partnership with ScalaHosting to give its users direct access to hosting infrastructure built to keep pace with the self-hosted, open-source platform. Through this partnership, OpenCart is removing the friction often associated with getting a self-hosted platform up and running.

As e-commerce becomes increasingly competitive, OpenCart's combination of a free, open-source platform, support for physical and digital goods, and performance-focused hosting through ScalaHosting continues to stand out as the practical choice for hundreds of thousands of online businesses.
